Importing and Exporting Your Data

Move your financial data in and out of Prism Wallet

Whether you're switching from another app or want to backup your data, Prism Wallet makes it easy to import and export your financial information.

Importing Data

Supported Import Sources

We support direct imports from:

  • Mint (CSV format)
  • Monarch Money (CSV export)
  • Copilot (CSV export)
  • Rocket Money (Transaction export)
  • Generic CSV (Any properly formatted file)
  • Apple Card (Statement PDF)

How to Import Transactions

Step 1: Prepare Your Export

  1. Export data from your previous app
  2. Save as CSV format
  3. Ensure file is under 5MB

Step 2: Start Import

  1. Go to SettingsImport Data
  2. Select your previous app or "Generic CSV"
  3. Tap Choose File
  4. Select your CSV file

Step 3: Map Your Data

  1. Review the column mapping
  2. Match columns to Prism Wallet fields:
    • Date (Required)
    • Amount (Required)
    • Description/Merchant
    • Category
    • Account
  3. Select date format used in file

Step 4: Review and Import

  1. Preview the first few transactions
  2. Verify data looks correct
  3. Tap Import Transactions
  4. Wait for processing to complete

Import from Mint

Since Mint is shutting down, here's the specific process:

  1. Export from Mint
    • Log into Mint
    • Go to Transactions
    • Select "All Time" date range
    • Click "Export to CSV"
  2. Prepare the File
    • Open in spreadsheet app
    • Remove any summary rows
    • Save as CSV
  3. Import to Prism Wallet
    • Settings → Import Data → Mint
    • Upload your file
    • Map categories if needed

Apple Card Statements

For Apple Card transaction history:

  1. Get Your Statement
    • Open Wallet app
    • Tap Apple Card
    • Tap Card Balance
    • Download monthly statements
  2. Import Process
    • Settings → Import Data → Apple Card
    • Select PDF statements
    • Transactions auto-extract

CSV Format Requirements

Your CSV should include:

  • Required Fields:
    • Date (MM/DD/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD)
    • Amount (positive or negative numbers)
  • Optional Fields:
    • Description/Merchant name
    • Category
    • Account name
    • Notes

Example Format:

Exporting Data

Quick Export

  1. Go to SettingsExport Data
  2. Choose what to export:
    • All Transactions
    • Date Range
    • Specific Accounts
    • Specific Categories
  3. Select format:
    • CSV (recommended)
    • PDF Report
  4. Tap Export

Export Options

Transaction Export

Includes:

  • Date
  • Merchant/Description
  • Amount

Budget Report

Includes:

  • Budget name
  • Limit amount
  • Spent amount
  • Period
  • Performance

Net Worth Report

Includes:

  • Account balances over time
  • Asset breakdown
  • Liability summary
  • Monthly snapshots

Using Exported Data

CSV Files can be used for:

  • Tax preparation
  • Spreadsheet analysis
  • Importing to other apps
  • Long-term archival

PDF Reports are great for:

  • Sharing with accountant
  • Loan applications
  • Personal records
  • Year-end review

Bulk Operations

Bulk Edit Before Import

  1. Open CSV in spreadsheet app
  2. Common edits:
    • Find/Replace merchant names
    • Bulk categorize by keyword
    • Remove unwanted transactions
  3. Save and import

Merge Duplicate Accounts

After import, you may have duplicates:

  1. Go to Settings → Accounts
  2. Select "Merge Accounts"
  3. Choose accounts to combine
  4. Confirm merge

Advanced Import Features

Custom Category Mapping

  1. Before importing, export our category list
  2. Map your old categories to ours
  3. Include mapping in import

Historical Data Limits

  • Free accounts: Last 90 days
  • Premium: Unlimited history
  • Consider upgrading for full import

Incremental Imports

For ongoing transitions:

  1. Export monthly from old app
  2. Import new months as needed
  3. Avoid duplicate date ranges

Troubleshooting Imports

Common Issues

"Invalid File Format"

  • Ensure CSV not Excel format
  • Check for special characters
  • Remove formatting

"No Valid Transactions"

  • Verify date format
  • Check amount format (no $ signs)
  • Ensure required fields present

"Duplicate Transactions"

  • Check date ranges don't overlap
  • Use duplicate detection tool
  • Manual review if needed

Import Best Practices

  1. Start Small: Test with one month first
  2. Backup First: Export existing data before big imports
  3. Review Categories: May need adjustment post-import
  4. Verify Balances: Ensure totals match
  5. Clean Source Data: Fix issues before import
